The Wiseman Method consists of values, techniques, and coaching principles that aim to build character in, and teach life skills to, today's generation of youth through sports and proactive play. With over 15 years of experience as a mentor and athletic coach, Sports Coaches for Kids founder, Joshua P. Wiseman understands that many intangible characteristics are necessary for real and lasting success, both on and off the field. Each coach vetted at Sports Coaches for Kids exemplifies these core values when working with their students. The Wiseman Method is the foundation of the Sports Coaches for Kids development process. The 8 fundamental pillars of The Wiseman Method are:
2.) Work Ethic
3.) Commitment to Excellence
We help kids understand the importance of treating others with respect, following the Golden Rule, and being tolerant of differences. Good manners, respectful language, empathy, and peacefulness are core values we instill in each and every child we work with.
Having integrity means doing the right thing, even when it's the hard thing. Cultivating integrity in today's youth means installing a moral compass that doesn't waver in the face of difficult challenges.
We teach kids how to have empathy, help others, and protect the environment. We show them how to be involved in their community, obey laws and rules, and behave as "citizens of the world."
Work ethic boils down to the 3 D's of success: diligence, dedication, and discipline. We help kids understand the value of patience and the rewards achieved by perseverance.
Kids need mindfulness too! Mindfulness can be defined simply as paying attention on purpose. It means being grateful for the present moment, without the need for constant stimulation and distraction.
Balance is essential to all types of success in life. Often, today's kids spend too much time in front of an I-pad or video game and not enough time on their studies, or too much time in front of a screen and not enough time being active outdoors. Achieving a balanced lifestyle and perspective is key.
Commitment to Excellence
We show kids that excellence is achievable, no matter their innate abilities. Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.
In athletics and in life, the quality of leadership is a necessary ingredient to success. We teach kids to lead by example and take initiative, paving the way for future personal achievement.
" I founded Sports Coaches for Kids & The Wiseman Method to make a positive impact on youth coaching and sports in today's cultural atmosphere. Never has there been a need for good coaches and mentors that lead the way for a promising and upcoming future of youth. Leading through example, coaches and mentors exemplify good character and show kids the character skill sets they need to succeed in life."
